Hiroshima Castle
Hiroshima Castle was built by the lord of what was once known as the Hiroshima Domain, Mōri Terumoto, on the mouth of the Ōta-gawa River and is a classic example of a flatland castle. The castle tower was designated as a national treasure in 1931, but was destroyed in the atomic bombing. The tower was rebuilt in 1958 and is currently home to a historical museum about samurai culture. (Building expected to close during the latter half of FY2025.)
